A Producer's Producer

Jon Jenks is a writer, producer, and director based in Hawaiʻi. For more than two decades, he has worked across television, documentary, and digital media, with a particular interest in the ways history, culture, and popular storytelling intersect.

His work is rooted in an appreciation for the people, music, art, history, and cultures that have shaped the place he calls home. As a producer at PBS Hawaiʻi, Jon has written and produced more than 200 television programs including Nā Mele, Home Is Here, and Insights, working with artists, community members, and storytellers from across the islands.

Jon wrote, produced, and directed the Emmy-nominated Puʻuwai Haokila: The Story of How Hawaiʻi Shaped Modern Music, a feature-length documentary exploring the profound and often overlooked influence Hawaiʻi has had on music around the world.

His writing, both fiction and nonfiction, often returns to stories from Hawaiʻi that deserve to be recognized and celebrated—from little-known moments in history to the people whose contributions have too often gone under the radar.
