From Scripts to Storybooks

Kaylin Melia George is a Native Hawaiian storyteller whose work spans film, literature, and community.

A filmmaker by training, George began her career as an Editor in Tokyo and went on to work at a top-five talent agency before becoming a Resident Writer & Director at a Los Angeles-based production company. Her work grew to encompass narrative film, documentary, and national commercial campaigns, with projects recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences and premieres at the United Nations. She later moved into creative development, becoming the Vice President of Development at Mythify Studios.

George’s literary work has garnered some of literature’s highest honors, including the Asian/Pacific American Award for Literature, making George the first Hawaiian recipient in the award’s history. Her book, Aloha Everything, was voted the favorite Hawaiian book of the year by students across Hawaiʻi and archived by the Library of Congress as a work of national heritage.

George is also a sought-after public speaker; her engagements have included the National Book Festival, the Chicago Field Museum, the New York Public Library, the American Library Association, the Hawaiʻi International Conference on Education, the AAPI Joy Festival, and more.

Today, George continues to find joy in exploring the many ways stories can be carried forward.
